This is the speech I did for my ninth Competent Communications manual speech at Toastmasters. The aim of this speech is meant to be to persuade the audience. It is a 5-7 minute speech but I went overtime at just over 8 minutes. I didn’t actually write my speech out word for word, but the points I endeavoured to make are listed below. I was meant to do this without notes, but that is just too many stats for me to memorise.

Nicholson Vs. Brooks

Last night I did my seventh speech from the Competent Communicator Manual. The exercise is ‘Research Your Topic’. The title is ‘Nicholson Vs. Brooks’ and the time is meant to be 5-7 minutes (mine was just over 7:18 minutes). This is the second time I have given a speech without notes.

Lycans

While earlier portrayals of werewolves are vicious, cunning and without mercy – Little Red Riding Hood is a good example of this – today’s werewolves are more likely to evoke sympathy than fear. Films such as Teen Wolf, Harry Potter and Twilight are heralding a new era where werewolf as savage outcast is replaced by werewolf as symbol of strength and faithfulness.

Food

This is the message that is constantly drummed into us. At school, at home, on tele – food is fuel. In countries like America and Australia, this is the message we hear. Food is the enemy – tasty and necessary, it’s true, but something to be tolerated, even feared.

Officially A Member

I attended my second Toastmasters meeting tonight. I was a little less nervous than last time. Unlike my usual manner, I actually recalled everybody’s names. I also met some others who weren’t present last time.
